Ohio in Crisis: State helping families hurt by opioid epidemic

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) — The fight against the opioid crisis is far from over, but progress is being made to help Ohio’s families.

The public health epidemic has claimed the lives of thousands of Ohioans. In 2018, 3,764 died statewide as a result of an unintentional overdose. Fentanyl was involved in the majority of those deaths.

The number of Ohioans dying from unintentional overdoses has dropped since 2017, but Gov. Mike DeWine says Ohio is still in a crisis.

“You can’t describe this is as any other way than a huge health crisis in the state of Ohio,” said DeWine “We’re still losing a large number of people.”
