Clothing Giveaway Outreach by AOC
Many people in our communities cannot afford to buy clothes for themselves or their children. Not having enough clothes affects a person’s daily life, a child’s ability to perform in school, and overall morale within families.
One of the absolute worst contributors to negative global environmental impacts and pollution is synthetic clothing fibers lost in daily use and from discarded clothing, ending up in landfills.
‘A population of 100,000 can produce 793 pounds per year of individual, teeny-tiny plastic shards – much of which will end up in the world’s oceans, and once they’re there, there is no way to remove them’ 2
Providing the opportunity of reuse of clothing helps not only the people in need but the environment by curbing the consumption of new ‘fast fashion’ clothing items.
On Saturday, September 14th, Addiction Outreach Clinic in New Philadelphia, Ohio hosted their second Free Clothing Giveaway. At the event new and gently used clothing items for men, women, and children were available to families in need at no cost. And in addition to clothing, basic toiletries were also made available – a common item in shortage for families living in need.
